Controllers

Overview to controllers

There are three types of controllers in Casambi Pro:

  • Switches
  • Sensors
  • Schedules

In Casambi Pro, controllers are first created as virtual placeholders within Casambi Pro for Windows. These placeholders allow for configuration during the design phase. During commissioning, these virtual controllers are replaced by physical devices.

Switches and sensors can also be paired directly into Pro networks as new devices without using a placeholder. In this case, they will not have a pre-configuration and must be programmed manually in either Casambi Pro for Windows or iOS.

Controller Configuration Workflow

  1. Add: Place a virtual controller element (switch, sensor, or schedule) into a space in Casambi Pro for Windows.
  2. Configure: Define the settings for the virtual controller in Pro for Windows or iOS.
  3. Pair: In Pro for iOS, replace the virtual placeholder by pairing a physical controller device. The physical device’s image will then appear on the layout.
  4. Test: Verify that the controller operates as intended.
  5. Adjust: Fine-tune the configuration in Pro for iOS or Windows.

Usage Guidelines

  • New virtual controllers can only be added using Casambi Pro for Windows.
  • In Casambi Pro for iOS, a controller can be paired either to a virtual placeholder or as a new standalone unit.
  • A controller must always belong to exactly one space.
  • Controllers cannot be moved or copied between spaces; however, they can be duplicated within the same space. When physical controller device is duplicated, a virtual placeholder with configuration is created.
  • All switch, sensor, and schedule properties can be edited in both Pro for Windows and Pro for iOS.
  • Pairing physical devices over virtual placeholders is only possible via Casambi Pro for iOS.
  • The schedule controller in Casambi Pro has the following functional limitations compared to the standard Casambi App:
    • Project-wide (site-wide) schedules cannot be created. The functional scope is limited to the assigned network.
    • The "Override Presence" feature available in the standard Casambi App is not supported in Casambi Pro.
    • Deactivation times cannot be left unset; a value is mandatory.
